Common Questions
What is the difference between CanSkate and Figure Skating?
CanSkate is our foundational learn-to-skate program for all beginners. Our figure skating programs (StarSkate) are specialized for athletes who have completed basic badges and want to focus on dance, free skate, and interpretive jumps.
What equipment is mandatory for figure skating sessions?
Skaters require CSA-approved hockey helmets (until Badge 5 completion), sharpened figure skates, and flexible, warm layers. No jeans are permitted on the ice for safety and mobility reasons.
How do I know which level to register my child in?
New skaters age 3-5 start in Pre-CanSkate. Skaters with previous experience from other clubs will be assessed by our coaching team during their first session to ensure they are in the correct program level.
Are there parent volunteer requirements?
Yes, Skate Morinville is a non-profit organization run by volunteers. We require parent support for events and facility operations. Detailed volunteer commitments are shared during our seasonal registration.
