
POLICIES
Registration:
All skaters must be registered and paid prior to their first day of the session with SMC.Memberships are non-transferable between skaters and/or sessions.All registrations are done via email, in person or mail.All skaters must be registered at least 24 hours prior to the first day of the session. Payment is required to confirm registration. All members of SMC must be registered with Skate Canada. Media Release:
I hereby grant to SMC the right to use, without payment of any fee or charge, any photograph, videotape or other visual media of myself/son/daughter taken during the program(s) for the purpose of furthering the Skate Morinville Club objectives. If you do NOT grant the Media Release, please note this in your registration.

Refund/Credit/Cancellations /Administration Fee Policies:
SMC reserves the right to cancel sessions/classes, limit the number of skaters per session/class and to change the session/class levels when necessary.Make up sessions are not offered. In the event the SMC cancels a lesson, the missed class will be rescheduled later in the season. If the SMC is unable to reschedule the lesson, the cancelled lesson will be credited to your account.
The club has a NO refund policy for all programs once the program has started. All cancellations must be in writing, and within 7 days of the program start date. There is a $50.00 Administration fee for all cancellations. Cancellations may be subject to the Skate Canada Registration Fee. All lessons must be purchased in conjunction with the Season's registration.All prices, dates, and times are subject to change without notice.

Fundraising:
The SMC is a small volunteer-based, Not-for profit organization that provide Skate Canada programs instructed by NCCP coaches.The ice fees charged only covers a portion of overall operations costs.We are not a MLC or Town of Morinville run program therefore our ice costs are not subsidized by the local government. Fundraising is very important and we run an annual silent auction, along with other yearly fundraisers. We asked for your continued support in these fundraising activities. Please support our annual silent auction, flip give and other fundraising events otherwise we will implement mandatory fundraising to your cost.

Skater’s Etiquette and Guidelines:
All skaters shall demonstrate good sportsmanship, courtesy and respect towards others, both on and off the ice.
This code is put into place for the safety of the SMC skaters and coaches.

GENERAL
Skaters must not go on the ice until the Zamboni has left the ice and the Zamboni gate has closed.
Skate guards are worn when the skater is off the ice.
Do not ask the advice of a coach about your skating problem during another skater’s lesson.
Skaters shall use appropriate language at all times.
Swearing or the use of abusive language is not acceptable.
Use of inappropriate language will result in the skater being asked to leave the ice.

General Ethics
Parents must be courteous at all times to everyone, including skaters and their fellow parents, in accordance with Skate Canada’s Code of Ethics. Skate Canada Code of Ethics
If a Parent is overheard speaking in a derogatory or negative tone about a skating member, parent, coach, or official, they will be subject to disciplinary action by the SMC Board. This includes, but isn’t limited to, making negative remarks about skating ability or appearance. Skate Morinville Club is committed to promoting a positive and friendly environment for all skaters. Please treat your fellow members and the coaches as you would like to be treated: with kindness and respect.
Parents with younger siblings in the stands are required to supervise their children at all times. It is essential to ensure that noise levels are kept to a minimum and that running in the stands is not permitted, as such behavior is not acceptable.
For insurance reasons, parents/guardians are not permitted on the ice surface.
Parents, guardians, or a designated individual should remain in the arena for the entire session (until the child reaches 12 years of age), unless a designated parent has been assigned or contact information has been left with the coach.
Coaches are not to be disturbed during lessons.
Parents shall refrain from any behavior or comments that are profane, insulting, harassing, sexist, racist, abusive, disrespectful, or otherwise offensive.
Parents shall emphasize the importance of values like sportsmanship, respect, cooperation, competition, and teamwork to their child, offering praise for competing fairly, participating, and skill development.
Parents shall in still confidence in their child’s ability and skill development, avoiding comparisons with other skaters.
Parents shall celebrate the acquisition of skills and goals achieved by their child.
Parents, along with the professional coach and the athlete, shall be considered members of a team whose main concern is the child’s overall progress and development.
Parents shall respect that the professional coach is responsible and empowered for the on-ice and off-ice development of the athlete.
Parents shall ensure their child wears proper skating clothing and equipment.
Parents shall adhere to the policies, procedures, rules, standards, and ethics of the SMC and Skate Canada at all times.
Parents will not use technology or social media to disrespect or exploit others.
Parents are not allowed to record another skater or any coach without permission.
Concerns or complaints will be reviewed only if submitted in writing to the Board and will be reviewed by the Executive Board.
Parents should not communicate with their child while they are on the ice.

CONDUCT
Skaters must be aware of all other skaters on the ice and maintain a safe distance from them.
Pushing, tripping, horseplay or intentional interference of other skaters is absolutely forbidden.
Skaters will be asked to leave the ice.
Skaters must ask permission from a coach or club official prior to leaving the ice for any reason.
Skaters are expected to stay on the ice for the duration of a session, including group programming.
The coach has the right to refuse re-entry of a skater who has left the ice without permission.
Gum, candy, or food is not permitted on the ice.
Water in a non-breakable container is allowed however minimal on-ice hydration is needed if skaters hydrate appropriately 30-60 minutes prior to skating.
There will be no loitering along the boards or sitting in the player's box. Excessive loitering or talking on the ice (including the music box), will result in one verbal warning and then the skater will be asked to leave the ice for a second infraction.
Skaters must get up quickly after falling.
No use of ear buds while skating.
No use of Smart/Cell Phones in Dressing rooms or On Ice for video/pictures.
No touching or moving of others personal property without approval in dressing rooms.
Skaters are expected to be on time for all on-ice and to train throughout the entire session. In order for skaters to reach their full potential, it is expected that they attend all on-ice sessions for their level on each day they skate.
Parents are not permitted to enter the rink area during a skating session unless assisting with skate tying or at the request of a coach.
Please do not interrupt coaches while they are coaching.
Parents may not talk to the skaters on the ice. Interrupting focus during a moving session is considered hazardous and disruptive. It is unacceptable to coach your child or anyone else’s child during any session.

Corrective Action Steps:
The Skate Morinville Club Board will only commence disciplinary action upon receiving a written letter of complaint outlining a violation of the Code of Ethics.
Progressive Disciplinary Actions:
1st Offence:
Written letter from the Skate Morinville Club Board addressed to the Parent detailing the violation.
2nd Offence:
Suspension from the arena of all club programs for one week without compensation, including competitions and test days.
3rd Offence:
The Parent may be asked to leave the club at the Board’s discretion. In the case of a serious breach of ethics, the Parent may be immediately suspended at the Board’s discretion. In cases of suspension or expulsion, no refunds of any kind will be granted.

Skate Canada Notice of Collection
By signing below, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agree to comply with the Skate Canada Privacy Code as provided and hereby request, and consent to, the registering of myself with Skate Canada.
By signing below and registering with a club or skating school and allowing yourself to be registered nationally with Skate Canada and submitting this form, you indicate your acceptance of all terms and conditions associated with the Skate Canada Privacy Code and expressly provide your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your confidential information to register you with Skate Canada in any capacity including, without limitation, as a Skate Canada registrant, coach or in connection with your affiliation with a skating club or skating school and to administer various services, such as Skate Canada programs, services and events, contact you to provide you with relevant offers regarding events and competitions, all as set forth in the Privacy Code. In addition, through the submission of form, you expressly consent to the sharing or exchange of your confidential information with Skate Canada affiliates, which includes your local skating club or skating school or provincial association or section, and with service providers.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE :
Low income families may qualify for financial assistance through Jumpstart. Payment must be secured before your registration will be processed. If using this option, please apply early so you can secure your spot.

COMMUNICATION:
Please make sure a valid email address is on the registration form as all notices and newsletters will be sent out via email.It is your responsibility to check the notices or the SMC website for all skating information.

What is the Skate Canada Fee?
This is an annual fee that goes straight to Skate Canada Head Office and is used for insurance, safe sport and to register each skater.The insurance expires every August 31 and must be renewed each skating season.This fee is non-refundable.

Can I go on the ice with my child?
No, Parents/Guardians cannot go on the ice with their child. Skate Canada does not permit anyone to step onto the ice without proper insurance and registration.Rest assured, the coaches are NCCP certified and trained to assist skaters on the ice.

Players Box Areas:
Players Box areas are designed for Coaches and skaters only.We ask that parents enjoy watching their child from the designated "heating" seating area. This allows skaters to remain focused on the class activities during the program time.
